Mara Iacoe
With more than ten years in practice, Mara Iacoe is an experienced and enthusiastic Physiotherapist who is passionate about helping people stay active, move with confidence, and participate fully in the activities they enjoy. Whether recovering from an injury, managing a chronic condition, or working toward a personal fitness goal, Mara works collaboratively with her patients to develop individualized treatment plans that support both recovery and long-term health and wellness. Mara earned her Bachelor of Science from The University of Western Ontario in 2013 before completing her Master of Science in Physical Therapy at The University of Toronto in 2016. Her path into physiotherapy was shaped by a lifelong involvement in athletics, a fascination with human anatomy and physiology, and a desire to pursue a career in healthcare that would allow her to make a meaningful impact on people’s quality of life. Through CURAVITA’s collaborative, patient-centred model of care, Mara takes the time to understand what matters most to each individual she works with. She believes physiotherapy should be about more than simply reducing pain—it should help people return to the activities, hobbies, sports, and daily routines that contribute to their overall well-being. Whether a patient hopes to get back on the golf course, return to the gym, keep up with their children or grandchildren, or simply move more comfortably throughout the day, Mara designs treatment programs that are tailored to their unique goals and lifestyle. Mara has pursued extensive post-graduate training in musculoskeletal physiotherapy, movement assessment, and exercise-based rehabilitation. She is a strong advocate for evidence-based care and believes that movement is one of the most powerful tools for recovery and long-term health. By combining hands-on treatment with targeted exercise programs, she helps patients build strength, improve function, and gain the confidence to manage their symptoms independently. Seeing patients regain their ability to participate fully in the activities they love is one of the most rewarding aspects of her profession. Her clinical approach integrates manual therapy techniques, including joint mobilizations and soft tissue treatment, with progressive exercise-based rehabilitation. Mara places a strong emphasis on movement quality, proper technique, strength development, and functional exercise. Through ongoing assessment and re-evaluation, she ensures that treatment remains effective, goal-oriented, and aligned with each patient’s progress. Her objective is not only to help patients recover from injury, but also to equip them with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to stay active and healthy long after treatment has ended. Committed to lifelong learning and professional excellence, Mara has completed advanced training through the Advanced Integrated Musculoskeletal (AIM) Physiotherapy Program, one of Canada’s leading post-graduate orthopaedic physiotherapy education pathways. She has also completed specialized certifications in Shockwave Therapy, the Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA), the GLA:D Canada Program for osteoarthritis management, and The McKenzie Institute’s Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy approach for the lumbar spine. This advanced training allows Mara to provide comprehensive assessment and treatment for a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions, helping patients move better, recover more effectively, and achieve lasting results. Outside of the clinic, Mara enjoys leading an active lifestyle. She participates in strength training several times each week and enjoys both mat and reformer Pilates. When the weather cooperates, she can often be found cycling or exploring Ottawa on long walks. An avid reader, Mara is rarely without a few books on the go at any given time. Mara’s combination of advanced clinical training, active rehabilitation expertise, and commitment to helping patients live healthier, more active lives makes her a valued member of the CURAVITA Community of Care.
